Earth Colors Of Provence Natural Earth Pigments come from the French quarries of the Luberon Mountains in Provence. These Natural Earth Pigments date back 110 million years ago when the area was covered by the sea, which deposited a mix of mineral-filled sea sand and gray clay.
Human use of these pigments began with human art, such as, body painting, fertility & burial rites as evidenced in prehistoric archeological sites that have survived for over 30,000 years.
By looking at the quarries and the ore in the region, one can see the amazing color range of natural Ocher and Earth Pigments. Before the pigments are ready to be used, they go through several stages of manufacturing process.
